Transformations

Transformations was an interactive and interdisciplinary collaboration with the PLAN project at the University of Oslo at the Science and Research Fair (Forskningstorget), Tromsø, Norway, 2009

Transformations explored how we can rethink the meaning of sustainability and adaptation. Together with the public, we examined how these terms are understood and how they might be redefined. The main questions were: How can we adapt to climate change in sustainable ways? And how can we develop new and creative approaches to key issues such as food, energy, and resource use?

The project included a lavvu (a Sámi tepee) with the invitation: “Everything you always wanted to know about climate change but never had the chance to ask.” Inside, members of the public and local school pupils met climate scientists, asked questions, and took part in open discussions while gathering around the fire.

In the main hall, visitors were invited to help paint a large canvas exploring the ideas of sustainability and adaptation. The finished painting was later exhibited at Tromsø Public Library alongside relevant literature.

An inspirational local senior group, Gutta på Skauen, helped us raise the huge lavvu for which we were eternally grateful!
