The film Bee explores the poetics of bees and beekeeping and offers a glimpse of the magic and delicate balance within the bee community. It reminds us that attraction is a fundamental organising force of the universe, revealing how nature achieves maximum grace with minimal effort. The film features the late Brian Goodwin, former Professor of Biology at Schumacher College (UK)
and author of several books on holistic science. He shares his knowledge and passion for themeeting point between nature and culture, illuminating subtle processes of the natural world often
overlooked by modern science. We also meet the experienced beekeeper Glyn Davies fromAshburton (UK) who shares his insights drawn from more than 40 years of working with bees.
The film was made in 2007, shortly after the first major outbreak of Colony Collapse Disorder(CCD), which led to dramatic losses in bee populations worldwide, in some regions reaching up to
80%. CCD was (and still is) strongly linked to the the extensive use of pestecides, especially neonicotinoids
